Collecting rainwater in this fashion eases your reliance on mains water supplies. You can use the rainwater for your toilet, laundry, garden, swimming pool and car while saving the higher-quality mains water for activities like drinking, cooking and showering. What government rebates are available for rainwater tank installation? The NSW Government currently offers up to $1500 in rebates for rainwater tank installation. This includes a rebate for the tank itself valued anywhere between $150 and $500, depending on the tank’s capacity. A further $500 is provided if the tank is connected or ‘plumbed in’ to your toilet, and another $500 is provided if the tank is plumbed into your washing machine. The Federal Government offers up to $500 in rebates as part of its National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative. Unlike the state rebate, connection to your toilet and/or laundry is a requirement rather than an option. Plumbed-in tanks between 2,000 and 3,999 litres receive a $400 rebate, while plumbed-in tanks of more than 4,000 litres receive the $500 amount. In both cases, tanks must be installed and connected by a licensed plumber in order to qualify for the rebate.
